Default What is dedicated server

Hi,

A dedicated server is a server to which you are the only one that has access to the files, and you control the contents of the entire server. You are not sharing space with anyone else, nor can anyone else get to your data.

In the web hosting industry, a dedicated server is usually defined as the rental and exclusive use of a computer that includes a web server, related software, and connection to the Internet, located on-site, within a webhosting company's premises. In most cases, for compilation of related company web sites, that may develop a considerable amount of traffic, a dedicated server is usually needed. In many cases, the server may be configured and operated on a remote basis, independently located from the client company. They are also used by larger companies that need separate systems for mail, web, and database servers. Web hosting companies may have their sites spread over one or several servers. Dedicated servers are generally kept inside of data centers, so that they may be monitored by service providers.

A dedicated hosting service, dedicated server, or managed hosting service is a type of Internet hosting in which the client leases an entire server not shared with anyone. This is more flexible than shared hosting, as organizations have full control over the server(s), including choice of operating system, hardware, etc. Server administration can usually be provided by the hosting company as an add-on service. In some cases a dedicated server can offer less overhead and a larger return on investment. Dedicated servers are most often housed in data centers, similar to colocation facilities, providing redundant power sources and HVAC systems. In contrast to collocation, the server hardware is owned by the provider and in some cases they will provide support for your operating system or applications.

A dedicated server is a single computer in a network reserved for serving the needs of the network. For example, some networks require that one computer be set aside to manage communications between all the other computers. A dedicated server could also be a computer that manages printer resources. Note, however, that not all servers are dedicated. In some networks, it is possible for a computer to act as a server and perform other functions as well.

In the Web hosting business, a dedicated server is typically a rented service. The user rents the server, software and an Internet connection from the Web host.

Hello Friends

Dedicated hosting offers many enticing features such as:
* Do not have to purchase own equipment
* Do not have to update/maintain equipment
* Can purchase a package based on own needs for Hard Disk Space and Data Transfer Allowance
* If an upgrade is needed, must upgrade on the dedicated server from the same Web Host Provider
* The servers are as fast, powerful and high-capacity as you purchase
* Scalability. Upgrading your server or adding a new server is easier and more cost effective. Upgrades can occur less than 24 hours after submitting a work order to the service provider. Upgrades are cheaper too, because you only pay monthly rental fees on the new hardware, not the entire capital costs. You simply pay the difference between the present system package and the new system package, for both the startup and the monthly fee.

Thanks

Although your specific dedicated server hosting needs may be unique in a few ways, generally, one can make a decision on a dedicated web server provider by considering the following things:
Data Transfer Rates
Data transfer will need to be determined based on the amount of information that will be downloaded, as well as the type of content a site will be sharing (general text vs. high resolution graphics and multimedia).
Platforms
The two most common systems available are Windows based servers versus some flavor of UNIX . Windows is historically more expensive, but is generally regarded as more user-friendly, especially with the ubiquitous presence of Windows-based pc's and administrators. Linux, on the other hand, is less expensive to install, but harder to maintain, as a steeper learning curve exists for those unfamiliar with it.
